Merdeka Day

Merdeka Day: Awaited day of the Malaysian’s

The Federation of Malaya gained its independence from United Kingdom in 1957. This day is marked as Merdeka Day. 31st August marks the day of the Federation and in 2017 this very year the public holiday falls on a Thursday. The people who converse in Malaya call this day as Hari Merdeka. This day of independence is almost incomplete without the seven loud shouts land of “Merdeka”. This typical gesture of celebration was actually first initiated by the first Prime Minister of Malasia, Tunku Abdul Rahman in 1957 at Dataran Merdeka. Every celebration require an adequate time for its preparation though this celebration is only declared a one day public holiday but the preparation takes place a fortnight before with full enthusiasm and the ecstasy continues almost for a month right upto the Malaysia Day which celebrated on the 16th of September.

 

During this whole celebration the month of August is known to people of Malasia as the Merdeka month. Generally this time of the month the Malasians expresses their typical sense of country feeling and their patriotism towards their mother land. The Malasians consider their country to be culturally unique nation by raising their country flag in their vehicles, even some people make it a compulsory discipline to keep it in there terrace.

Cultural significance of Malaysia

The Malaysian’s consider their society to be culturally unique and full of sophistication. The make up of the Merdeka Day is full of visual sophistications. The people keeps themselves busy making their house filled with decorations and lights. As the whole nation gets involved with this occasion and they give their best to beautifully decorate their dwelling places. The special attraction like the main roads, the shopping malls, the highways all is beautifully decorated to give it a perfect visual flair.

 

Children’s participation in Merdeka Day

Children are like a promise to a nation. Their participation is very much considered and entertained. Just before the arrival of Merdeka Day all the schools and educational institutions starts training their pupils for their nation’s most awaited celebration. The students perform several activities such a parade, country songs for patriotism are sung by children in this special occasion just as a portrayal of their patriotism. These performances are generally organised in prominent places where the passers-by can easily get influenced by the performance and can remember and cherish about this very day ones again.

 

The Merdeka Parade

The morning of 31st August begins with the Merdeka Day Parade to proudly announce the development of the country. People gather from every corners of the nation irrespective of any caste and creed to watch the march of individuals from government and private sector under the watchful eyes of the ministry. This is one of the finest times of the year when the whole Malaysian society moves into this grand unification with all their dedication and sincerity. In this occasion the whole population remains engrossed with this harmonious event. At Merdeka Independence stadium this event takes place which glorifies the occasion. This stadium in Kuala Lumpur was built to commemorate this celebration of independence thus remembering the sacrifices made by the brave souls.
